``Ye Olde Synth-DIY Shoppe of Itymes and Goodes''
Synth-DIY is predominantly a small-scale hobby or business. As such,
some parts are difficult to obtain, simply because the distributors are
unwilling to sell in small quantities, and because the mainstream component
suppliers (RS, Farnell, Rapid) are unable to stock every odd
component that we synth-nuts crave.
To try and balance this out, I am preparing to stock some of these
components on an ad-hoc basis, and willing to sell them on to fellow
synth-nuts.
If what you are looking for is not listed below then you could try looking up
Vintage Planet.
They have a much wider range of synth parts.

SSM2164PZ (Click for datasheet) (Lead-free)
|
The SSM2164 contains four independent voltage controlled amplifiers
(VCAs) in a single package. High performance (100 dB dynamic range, 0.02%
THD) is provided at a very low cost-per-VCA, resulting in excellent value
for cost sensitive gain control applications. Each VCA offers current input
and output for maximum design flexibility, and a ground referenced -33 mV/dB
control port.
All channels are closely matched to within 0.07 dB at unity gain, and
0.24 dB at 40 dB of attenuation. A 120 dB gain range is possible.
A single resistor tailors operation between full Class A and AB modes.
The pinout allows upgrading of SSM2024 designs with minimal additional
circuitry.
The SSM2164 will operate over a wide supply voltage range of ±4 V
to ±18 V. Available in a 16-pin P-DIP package, the device is
guaranteed for operation over the extended industrial temperature range of
-40°C to +85°C.

M110 (Click for datasheet) |
As used in the
Jen SX1000,
Siel Mono and Cruise,
the Farfisa Soundmaker,
the Crumar Synthaphone and Composer,
and Sequential Circuits' Fogue.
This is a rare NMOS chip, which is getting very difficult to find
nowadays. I have occassional supplies of this chip suitable for restoring
these classic monosynths.

MM5837N (Click for datasheet) |
A classic little noise generator chip, used in many analogue mono and poly synths, including the
Jen SX1000, Korg MonoPoly, Sequential Prophet5 and the Oberheim OB-X.
If you don't want the original noise sound you could try a modern replacement available from
Electric Druid.
These are brand new parts, from old stock.

| Wire wrap turned pin sockets SIL 32 way |
Original RS Components boxes of wire wrap SIL strips.
Sold in boxes of 5 strips at half the current catalogue price
(see RS part no. 267-7444).
Note: these are the older leaded solder variety, not the newer
RoHS-compliant version. But functionally exactly the same.

Kester 245 Part No. 24-6337-8806 |
63% Tin, 37% Lead, 0.015" (28 gauge, 0.376mm) diameter, #50
(1.1% low residue) flux cored solder. 454g/1lb reel, new and boxed.
Ideal for SMT working!
245 is a halide-free, rosin-based no-clean flux-cored solder,
requiring no residue removal for most applications, or can be cleaned with
solvent, e.g., iso-propyl alcohol (IPA), or Kester #5768 Bio-Kleen
saponifier.
It has performance similar to a mildy-activated rosin core, but leaves a
visually cleaner appearance after soldering. It can be used on platinum,
golder, copper, tin, solder, palladium and silver metals.

Ordering
Prices are shown in UK Pounds sterling. Payment can be made in the
following ways:
- Cash, personal cheque or postal order (UK-only)
- Europe: pay in Euros or Sterling through
PayPal
- USA/Other: pay in US Dollars or Sterling through
PayPal
If you are paying in Euros or US Dollars please contact me for a price in
these currencies, to account for postage and exchange rates.
Due to the high cost of handling and the long delays in processing
international money orders I do not recommend, or accept, this form of
payment. Sorry, but the bank charges are just way too high, and it takes
them a month to process.
Postage will be charged at whatever it costs, which will depend on what
you order and where you are. In the UK postage will be around £2.50
for semiconductors via first-class mail. Please contact me for larger items
or overseas mail estimates.
For more information email me@njohnson.co.uk
Please note: this is not a business, just a self-funding hobby, so
don't expect next-day dispatch. Also, I'll only order fresh supplies when I
run out, and distributors usually quote 3-4 weeks for non-stock items.
